Providing Supplemental Meals to Families in High Need Community

Backpacks filled with nutritious food are sent home each weekend and over school breaks.  The Aim is to target families going through sudden, difficult financial situations (seasonal employment, a parent losing a job, etc.) and families who may not necessarily qualify for school services or other assistance, but you are just as much in need.

The program runs purely on the kindness and generosity of the local and school communities. They aim to support families in living healthy lives!

MONETARY AND NON-PERISHABLE FOOD DONATIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED

BATS Pamphlet

A grassroots organization has arisen in Southern Lewis County to combat the drastic increase in drug addiction that is afflicting our area.  “It’s Real & It’s Local” has a multi-pronged approach of helping addicts get treatment, getting dealers arrested, educating the community, and providing area youth with healthy alternatives.

In that vein, some students came up with ideas for the use of a building across the street from the school.  It was an underused gym-space that now houses BATS (Building Across The Street) which is open for teens to utilize from 3-6pm on Fridays. There is an open gym, crafts, homemade snacks, coffee, board games, ping pong and foosball offered weekly.  Recently, we have also started monthly guitar lessons and cooking classes.

We are seeking funds to keep this program funded for next year.  Due to wonderful donations from the community, BATS can be fully funded with a contribution of $3000.

If you are interested in seeing pictures of current activities, they are posted at:  https://www.facebook.com/BATSFriday/

If interested in contributing to B.A.T.S,  checks should be made payable to the Drug Prevention Group that established BATS:
